Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)
==============
Day one:
==============
Square-Enix:
SE has announced they are making FFXIII. I know FFXII isn't even out yet, but it seem that they are starting to put their programmers on overdrive (pardon the pun). Not only did they announce FFXIII, but a 2nd FFXIII game called FFXIII Versus, and that's just on the Sony side. They are also making a new FFCC for the Wii, and one for the NDS as well. What I have heard of the NDS version so far sounds great!
Sony:
First thing I should say is one thing we have all been waiting for, and that's the date and price. Sony has announced they will release the PS3 on Nov. 17th '06 at $499 for the 20GB HDD version and $599 for the 60GB HDD version. I know it is quite high for a home console, but they are really taking a lose on them and depending on their games to dig them out of a whole. I believe the PS3 is the most powerfull home console ever made,but do they have what it takes to fight off the Wii's controller? (This just in! PS3 controller is to be motion sensitive like the Nintendo Wii's, and comes standard with all PS3s. This could save them if they do this right!)
I'll post some new games in a minute, but first I'd like to remind you to keep checking back here ever day this week for up to date E3 coverage!
-Metal Gear Solid (ALL NEW non-card version for PSP)
==============
Day one: (pt. 2)
==============
PSP:
I was so hyped over the PS3 news that I forgot to read what they had to say about the PSP. So here is what I gathered. The PSP will be getting a new upgraded version with mic, camera, and GPS (General Positioning Satellite). They will also have these as add-ons for those of us loyal enough to have already bought a PSP. The BIG news however, is the announcement of the "Greatest Hits" program for the PSP. YES! We will finaly be getting CHEAP PSP games! w00t!
PS3 controller:
As you may have read in part 1, they have announced that the PS3's controller is motion sensitive like the Nintendo Wii's controller. They also said that there will be no rumble feature due to it interfering with the sensors.
Square-Enix:
Something I missed before when I was reading up on Final Fantasy games... The game once known as the only Final Fantasy to NEVER make it to the US will finaly be coming! FFIII will arrive in 3D on the NDS.
==============
Day two:
==============
Nintendo Wii (a.k.a. Revolution):
They did not tell us any info about how much it is going to cost us, however I feel that they will have the lowest price of all three systems. They did tell us some more about the Wii. The controller has a built in mic and speaker. That speaker adds more depth to the sound. You know that wired attachment with the analog stick? (Nunchuku) That also has a Motion sensor in it, and this means that Nintendo is STILL one step ahead of Sony. Look forward to this and many kool games in the 4th quarter of 2007. Here are a few of those games... "Super Mario Galaxy", "Metiod Prime 3", "Zelda: Twilight Princess" (comes in 2 versions Wii & GC), "Wario Ware: Smooth Moves", "Fire Emblem", "Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals (2?)" and much much more.
NDS:
In June the DS gets a make over. The "NDS Lite" is smaller and lighter then the regular one. It has a built in web browser. The screen has four brightness settings. And the stylus is bigger and thicker. Beside that, I'd say if you bought the 1st one, you may just want to forget the Lite. It looks real nice, but at $129, you might as well stick with the one you got. Now for games,... "Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon: Blood (red for GBA) and Crip (blue for NDS)" (sept 18th), "Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals", "Final Fantasy III", "StarFox", "Diddy Kong Racing", "Yoshi's Island 2", "Zelda: Phantom Hourglass", "Mario Vs DK 2"
Online services:
Both Nintendo and Sony has announced online programs like the XBox Live. The "Wii Connect 24" and "(whatever Sony's service is called)" both have downloadable games. Sony has said that you can buy a Sony card and use it to download music among other things. They will both be used to download new levels and items.
New type of Sims:
From the makers of Sim City, and The Sims, comes a new game that we will all soon get hooked on. "Spore" is it's name! You start out with a single celled organism and you build a whole world with creatures of all sorts. There is a small online feature that (doesn't let you play with others) but it downloads worlds that other people have made and you can then visit those worlds on your game. I'm looking forward to this gem, even though I don't know what systems it will come out for (if any), because it sounds like it may just be a PC game, but please keep your hopes up!
Killing GREAT franchises:
Yes, you read right. Microsoft is killing Halo after Halo 3. Sony is killing Snake after MGS 4. However, I haven't heard of any that Nintendo is killing. (even though they haven't had a decent DK game since they lost Rareware)
Lastly, here are a few games I still need to mention...
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (Wii, NDS, GBA)
Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3 and X360)
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (PS3)
Xiaolin Showdown (multi-systems) w00t!
It was only the 2nd day and I have already filled you in on some of the best info! Could the next three days top what the first two brought? We'll see!
==============
Day three:
==============
Wii-mote:
The Wii's controller has earned the nickname "Wii-mote" because it looks like a remote. I have more news about it today. They just announced a new add-on called the Zapper. Nintendo vets will have already known this name from back in the '80s Here is a pic of the gun.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii):
YES! This just in! They have shown a clip of the new SSB game, and we now know it's official name. "Super Smash Brothers Brawl" The game IS online. Yes, you can use the old GC controller. They have not said if there will be any motion sensitive controlls. Some of the new characters may surprise you. I bet you never expected "Snake" from Metal Gear Solid! Yeah, you heard me! They also announced Wario, Pit (from Kid Icarus), Meta-Knight (from Kirby games), Zero Suit Samus. It is said that Wariomay will have a fart attack. They also said that they have not finished adding new characters, and that other 3rd party chars are a maybe. They are also TRYING to get Sonic to join their game! Don't look for this at release though, they said to look for it in 2007.
More Final Fantasy:
Yes I missed a few FF games the other 2 days. They are bringing FFV and FFVI to GBA, and "FF: Crisis Core". There is also talk of a Cell Phone version of FF.
Red Steel (Wii):
Red Steel is a sword fighting/gun play game. I think it's mostly to show off the awesome Wii controller, but it look really fun and they said it may be online, so I may get this one!
Tabula Rasa (PC):
NCSoft loves their MMOs don't they? Yes, and that's a good thing no matter what Morgan Webb says about it! This game is an MMOFPS! Finaly an MMOFPS! What more do you want? It looks like they may steal all the Couter Strike fans away and keep'em for themselves! I have no clue if this game has monthly fees, but I hope not! I mean, I don't know about you, but I like to only pay ONCE for a game, and that is why I like Guild Wars so much.
Bomberwoman (X360):
Don't I mean Bomberman? Well yeah, but this game is for the X360 and you have the option of playing as a female! I have seen screens of the game, and it mostly looks all redone, but there are still many likenesses.
GTA:
Yes you know GTA4 is coming to PS3 and X360, but did you know... The PSP is getting to go to Vice City! YES! "GTA: Vice City Stories" has just been announced for (well yeah PSP). I also would like to remind you that "GTA: LCS" is coming to PS2. So GTA fans have lots to look forward to. May I suggest saving your money? hahaha
More PS3 news:
There is more missing from the $499 version then just a few GBs of HDD. It is also mission 1080 HD video (it has 790 or w/e that one is), Memory Stick slots, and Wi-Fi compatibillity. The $599 version has all those things, so I'd say if you are saving up $500, why not save $100 more and get all the goodies? One more bit of info,... The PS3 controller's L2 and R2 buttons are now triggers.
The Eye Of Judgement (PS3 or 2?):
How many of you are TCG fans? I know what you are thinking, "Not another card based video game!". Well believe me when I say "You are ganna love this one" Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to bring your creatures to life like they do in Yu-gi-oh!? With this game, you use the EyeToy along with real life TCG cards to summon the creatures from out of your cards. The only way they could make this game any better is if they centered it around Pokémon.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon:
I haven't seen much of this game, but I have a pic that seems to be promoting the game and looks like it may have all of the characters that has ever been in a Mortal Kombat game. Well, here's the pic...
djaikou.com/images/games/mka013.jpg
Here are a few other games that are worth mentioning:
Ninety-Nine Nights (X360)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3)
Sonic Wild Fire (Wii)
Earthworm Jim goes portable (unknown, but maybe NDS &/or PSP)
Resident Evil for Wii!!
==============
Day four:
==============
Like I said, they are starting to run low on news, but do not fear! Today I bring you great news about some of my favorites!
Pokémon:
At E3 there have been demos of "Pokémon: Ranger" the next game after "Pokémon: Dungeon". I personly don't get the deal with Ranger, but Dungeon sounds like a blast! Wait, I have more news! They just released screenshots of the new "Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl" games! YES! I love it! w00t! Here are a few of them...
Lucas Arts:
They announced that they are fast at work on new and better StarWars games. I personaly would like to see "StarWars: Battlefront" for the Wii, wouldn't you? Wait, there's more! They are making an "Indiana Jones" video game where they have taking AI to the next level! They claim that each time you hit a guy, they react in a different way! Like AI nerves? Hey, I love it!
Blizzard Entertainment:
They have announced that they are working on several different games right now. They claimed that we will see new franchises, however, they also said (and I quote!) "The Diablo and Starcraft franchises are of the utmost importance to us as well." YES! w00t! That means they haven't forgotten us! They haven't announced any release dates, but this news is deffinately good news even though it may be years till we see these games with Blizzard's reputation!
Super Smash Bros. Brawl:
Here is a video I got from Gamespot...
djaikou.com/files/smashbros_ot_wii_051006_wm.zip
Tony Hawk:
Tony himself was on G4TV today, and he said that he is making two games. "Downhill Jam" for Wii, NDS, and GBA; AND "Project 8"! Downhill Jam is a Nintendo exclucive and is mostly a racing game. Something he hasn't done yet. Project 8 is more of what we love, but he says it's going to be even better than any of the ones before!
Mortal Kombat Armageddon:
Something real quick I forgot to say was that this game lets you make your own characters. It looks real fun!
Splinter Cell: Double Agent:
This game looks to be the best Splinter Cell yet! In this game you get to make choices so that you choose a bad side or a good side. Or even just make the choice to kill your best friend to save hundreds of inosent people. I don't know about you, but I'd save my best friend and just pray for the hundred others. hahaha! This game will be out on many systems, but strangly no word whether it wiill be out on the Wii or not.
Scarface:
At first look, this game looks like a Vice City clone; but in reality, VC was just a Scarface clone! haha! There are many other things you can do in this game that you can't do in VC. It looks pretty good, but it's only current gen! Yes, believe it or not, they are still making games for the old systems.
==============
Day five:
==============
Today was mostly just more of the same stuff I already covered. I do have some news for you, but not really anything groundbreaking.
NCsoft gets in trouble:
Each year NCsoft puts on a big stage show with music and everything. This year they boosted the music a little too loud and got in trouble with the LACC officials. They claimed that there were other booths that were louder than they were, but they couldn't get away with it without paying them a $5,000 fine!
Ok, so you can tell by that bit of news that I'm starting to run low. hahaha!
DOAX2:
"Dead Or Alive Extream 2" will be coming out for the X360! What? You think I left out the words "Beach Volleyball"? No! They didn't put those words in the title this time. Of course they will still have VB, but much more! They seem to have Wave Racing, Tug-o-war, and Booty Bumpin'! Yeah, A mini-game where two girls stand on a small round floating thing back to back and bump their butts together to try and knock the other off and into the water. Well, I think I'll stop there, cause we don't want to get an M rating! hahaha!
Mortal Kombat:
I can now confirm that "MK: Armageddon" has EVERY single character that has EVER been in a MK game! They say however that it is the final fight. Could this mean the end of the series? I guess time will tell.
Thanks for joining me for this years E3 coverage. The news I gathered was mostly from G4TV and Gamespot.com, with a very small dash of IGN.com I hope you liked this review and I hope you join me again next time. Untill then, I'm Scott "DJAikou" saying GL and HF! (good luck and have fun) (^_^)v
