Alot of the selection I see on TV is pretty slim, since there already is alot of the good shows moving to cable channels instead of networks, and since the television industry seems to be stuck on making the same kind of show over and over until people go nuts and won't watch it. They make everything similiar to everything else in their lineups, but there are a few shows out there on networks that are still creative and high quality.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Tokyo talks about TV Tokyo some and says it has downloadable shows, and this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anime_distributed_by_TV_Tokyo tells some movies and TV that they have to do with, probably all in Japanese but maybe you can find subtitled versions, maybe from one of those sites that fans put up to do subtitles. I'm not saying that most or even more than half of the shows on the popular Japanese channels will have something you like but you need to check out other shows if you don't want to be in the grip of the big networks wherever you live forever. They know you are limited to their lineups on networks, since here in the U.S. there are only really three big ones spending big money on new shows all of the time, on each week, ABC, CBS, and NBC. So why would they make too much original, challenging, creative or thoughtful entertainment? They don't have to if all the new weekly shows are all fit into the same molds and copied and reused, like all of the reality shows were for awhile, and crime solving shows still are very popular and fit this category. All of the resources they have seem to be put into keeping this kind of cycle going and finding the next cycle to stick all of the viewers in.
Wow, that turned into a longer rant than I wanted. But I'm a little biased since I'm not a huge television fan in the first place, but I do think it can be alright if you let variety into it. There is some bad stuff and good stuff in all types of television so if you try more than one you find more of the ones you like. So check out some web sites, which have alot of shows that you won't hear about otherwise. And here is a web site with some TV stations around the world: wwitv.com . And sites like Google Video and Youtube can help you get to some other great stuff, but be prepared to wade through alot of junk on the way. Post or PM me anytime and I can tell you about some of these cool finds. One is that if you look on Google Video you can find NHL games. OK well I'll try to ramble less from now on so, sorry if I rambled.
