One thing that alway makes me ponder is taxes.
What if you just want to be left alone and live off the land? If you had a farm, you could make your own food, and clothes.
But no! They have to tax us so we are basicly slaves. If we wanted to live off the land, we can't because the goverment wants a peice of everything.
Please post your thoughts, and any ideas how how we can make things better.

i think the taxes should be reduced as in U.K taxes are based at 17.5% which is alot considering the average wage for 25 year old at national minimum wage is £205, but after these taxes you've got about £180 give or take £1. and i remember an old comedy programme called "the good life" if was about a couple that decided to live of the land, so to speak, they never used money but items they'd grown or reared to trade for what they needed.

There are some flat taxes in Britain, with constant rates for everyone? Also I thought about this a bit, we have Amish people in our area and I wonder if they pay taxes... I know they do if they goto the store. And I suppose there's some people living out in the wild that haven't talked to the IRS or anybody in a few years, ah but we all pay tax sometimes I guess.. just as long as we pay tax for the right things and right amount for those things I guess.

Good point, I wonder if the Amish do.
It's just that when you own your own land you pay Taxes. I think we talked about something like this the other day where we said that you never really "own" land, you just rent it from the government. (or was it Sam I said that too? I think you were both here)

Yeah the property tax system does seem to be a sort of rent on your land. It is too bad that we can't think of more fair ways to get taxes from people. I mean there are school taxes in there but if they did that seperately it would make more sense. Not to mention the people who pay for school taxes and don't send kids to school, and the high costs of education which I believe are out of control... it has to do with what you think government should and shouldnt be. I really agree, to be taxed just for owning a piece of land or something on it seems silly. It is not like by owning that you cause a need for more taxes. I guess the government would rather trust itself to regulate the lands people live on with taxing then trust the people usually. But I'd usually trust people with property decisions.
